Usha Breco Limited, pioneers in the field of Ropeways, is part of Usha Martin Group of companies, trusted name in the field of Steel Wire ropes. Usha Breco Limited came into existence  in the year 1968, a a joint venture company of "Usha Martin Black" and 'British Ropeway and Engineering Company", UK. It was a forward integration by the Usha Martin group,the steel ropes made by then are to be used in the Ropeways for transportation.

MAA MANSADEVI UDHAN KHATOLA

UBL  constructed many Industrial and Material ropeways, in India and abroad. The first Passenger Ropeway was commercially inaugurated by the  company in Hardwar at the shrine of Maa Mansadevi on 21st May 1981. This ropeway connects the Hardwar town with the Maa Mansadevi shrine atop the Bill parvat.  There after company constructed many Passenger Ropeways. Presently company owns and operates Six ropeways at the following  destinations:

1. Maa Mansadevi, Hardwar,
2. Maa Chandidevi, Hardwar
3. Maa Kalidevi, Pawagarh, Gujarat
4. Maa Ambaji, Ambaji , Gujarat.
5. Malanpuza gardens in Palghat District, Kerela
6. Maa Tara Tarni, Bharampur, Odisha

As all the ropeways of the company, runs under the Brand name of "Udan Khatola" ( The filling bed) and are connecting the famous shrines of the Goddesses, hence uses the punch line, " Udan Khatola, Ropeways to the Goddesses."

UBL's CSR activities:

Usha Breco Limited, is a name synonymous with Social commitment and environment responsiveness. Since the commencement of its Ropeway plant in Hardwar in 1981, at Maa Mansadevi Shrine, the company is engaged in one or other social / environmental activities. In past, UBL has done the following activities:
 Participated actively in the greening of Hardwar and other environment upgradation programs. Sensitizing the school children by organizing Paryavaran Rally, Marathon, Painting & Rangoli competition on various environment topics.  Established a Community center in Kashipura, "Ambedkar Bhawan". Organised various vocational courses for the students of Bhrampuri. Organised cleanliness drive at Har ki pauri, on the hills of Maa Mansadevi & Maa Chandidevi.
The latest and the most creative CSR activity is being done by UBL now, in the form of the Handicraft items of Jute. The company formed a small self help group sort of an organisation of ladies from financially weaker section of society, living in the vicinity of the Maa Mansadevi ropeway and named this group as, “Usha - the awakening - Swayam Sahayata Samuh”. These ladies were trained, in making of the handicraft items from Raw Jute. The group was enrolled with the Raw Jute supplier of the National Jute Board, Kolkatta, to obtain jute directly from Kolkatta. The items being made by them include Jute baskets, slippers, mobile covers, dolls etc. The jute baskets are also used by the Parsad walas for give the Prasad offerings to the goddesses in these baskets. The response is very good and presently about 71 ladies are engaged in this activity. This activity is little more than a year old; it was initially started in July 2011. The earning from these items varies from Rs1500 to Rs 3000/- per lady per month, depending upon the number of items made by them.
Company got these ladies further trained at Hardwar in jute items under the scheme of National Jute board, Kolkatta. Also, the group provided training to the ladies of a nearby village Meawala, Dehradun, on their request. The ladies living in the vicinity of Gujarat ropeways at Pawagarh and Ambaji were also trained by the company, by sending the ladies trained from Hardwar, to start this activity at these ropeways sites also.

The role of the company is this activity is to facilitate by procuring jute from Kolkatta, providing training to the ladies, help in the marketing of the product through our ropeway counters and ensuring proper distribution of the money to the ladies. Company buys the product and money is paid to the ladies weekly. The products are then sold through various counters made for this purpose in the ropeway premises. This is a self sustaining activity, after a initial facilitation in the form of training and now providing the raw material, marketing and also training to the new comers on a continuous basis.
